The control box safely houses the electronic components inside to withstand elements in extreme weather. The unit operates on 24 VAC to start the hot surface igniter, which ignites the pilot light. After the pilot is lit, the thermocouple senses the heat and transfers the electronic signal to open the main gas valve. Once the flame is no longer detected, it shuts the valve to stop the flow of gas.
